Welcome to the West Virginia Chaos PDL, the first United Soccer Leagues Franchise in West Virginia

What is the PDL?

The Premier Development League (PDL) of United Soccer Leagues (USL) is the top under 23 men’s amateur league in North America. Players in the PDL have the ability to compete throughout the summer months in a professionalized setting maintaining their collegiate eligibility while being exposed to scouts and opportunities with professional teams in North America and now in Europe that have made the PDL a proving ground for players that aspire to reach the highest-levels of the game. This was most evident with the 2008 MLS Super Draft, seeing 39 of the 56 player’s drafted coming from PDL teams. Over the past five years the West Virginia Chaos themselves have impressively seen four alumni join the professional ranks, Steven Kehoe now with Llangefni Town of the Welsh Premier Division, Chase Harrison with the Rochester Raging Rhinos of the USL-1, Nick Noble with the Chicago Fire of the MLS and Greg Terhune with the MLS Columbus Crew.

The 2008 PDL campaign features a 67-team format within four conferences. Each team play 16 PDL regular season matches. Their schedule is augmented by participation in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, and various exhibitions. The US Open Cup is an open cup competition that allows any amateur and professional team to qualify for meaningful competition and offers amateur teams a chance to play against professional USL-1, USL-2 and MLS teams for the oldest domestic competition in North America.

Chaos have they set their sights on the Great Lakes Division of the Central Conference and the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup qualifying. The Central Conference is arguably the strongest in the PDL featuring the ’06 Champion and ’07 runner-up Michigan Bucks an affiliate of the MLS Columbus Crew, the Central Conference also boasts the U23 Colorado Rapids and the Chicago Fire Premier who are affiliates of their MLS teams and the Central Conference also features two of the leagues highest attended franchises, the Des Moines Menace averaged a league high and just under 3,900 fans a game the Toronto Lynx averaged nearly 1,100 fans a year ago fourth best in the nation.

2008 Season

The After a facelift that brought new majority ownership, management and coaching, the Chaos’ ambition and vision is to create a multitude of opportunities not otherwise available in our community. The Chaos PDL staff has begun to partner with the near 5,000 soccer players in the Kanawha Valley, from the recreation programs to the Adult leagues. For the first time, the Chaos will reach a larger audience than ever. We are exposing even the casual fan to a new and exciting experience on and off the field with the West Virginia Chaos, in our family friendly environment at Schoenbaum Stadium in Coonskin Park. We are looking at a much more excited and competitive team on the field and a pro active approach to community involvement thus attracting new and unaware fans to our matches.

2008 Roster

Will feature many new faces including three ex-pros, and four players who have represented their countries in international competition, seven players from West Virginia University and Marshall University, and team returns the all time appearance leader and the single season assist leader.

A Way to Give Back

In addition to playing games and practicing the Chaos PDL players and staff are already or will be involved in the community throughout the summer both on and off the soccer field. They offer affordable clinics and camps for beginners to experienced players, visit local schools, our players will make special appearances within the community, and the team will work with community organizations; (ie Ronald McDonald House). We are much more a soccer team. The West Virginia Chaos PDL is working towards building better and stronger relationships with the community as a means to give back.

“Youth Soccer Association Nights”

The West Virginia Chaos PDL, the Kanawha Valley Soccer League, West Virginia Soccer Club and the West Virginia Chaos Youth Club joined forces to celebrate “Youth Soccer Association Nights” at 2008 Chaos PDL home games. The Chaos PDL’s partnership of these youth soccer associations is about exposing young players to the higher levels of the game, associations are provided a clinic the week leading up to their match for $10 per participant, the clinic is coached by the West Virginia Chaos professional coaching staff and the players. The participating children each get a free ticket to their associations night and are exposed to the players in a first hand basis. To help the associations the West Virginia Chaos PDL team is looking for as many businesses in each associations area to step forward providing support for this innovative program. The Youth Soccer Association Recognition Night Sponsorship is an affordable $500 to help offset the cost of the clinic and tickets for each association. Also the sponsoring business receives a mention on the game day program match sheet, invited to join in the ceremonial kickoff prior to the match, repeated PA Announcements throughout the match, 50 free tickets to give away to patrons or employees and the West Virginia Chaos PDL will in part with your business donate $100 of the $500 sponsorship back to the soccer association that you are supporting. The local soccer associations are in need of new or improved fields for the nearly 5,000 young and aspiring players in the valley and we feel that this is just a small part of helping the associations while exposing more players and families to the West Virginia Chaos and a higher level of the game.

West Virginia Chaos, united as a club, united as a community takes this opportunity to thank you for your support and we look forward to serving you with coaching, instruction, player appearances and your personal and business needs for tickets.

Sincerely,

Rudy Roediger
